CAMTE-Strand Session Proposals for 2010 CMC Conferences are being Accepted Through April 17

CAMTE members are encouraged to submit a proposal to speak in the CAMTE-strand sessions at this fall’s CMC-South (Palm Springs) and CMC-North (Asilomar) conferences. Complete information is available on the CMC website. The procedure is a little different this year, as there is one common proposal form for both conferences. The conference program committees will select speakers, consulting us if there are more CAMTE sessions proposed than the number of slots available (9 at Palm Springs, 5 at Asilomar). It is imperative that you check "Teacher Education" for the category and write "CAMTE" in the additional comments section of the application to ensure your session is considered for the CAMTE strand. In addition, the Palm Springs Program Chair has said that all proposals must relate to the conference theme, “ Equity in Mathematics: Access, Achievement, Identity and Power.” In addition to submitting your proposal to CMC, please send me a copy of your title and description to Joanne Rossi Becker.

The CAMTE-strand sessions at the CMC conferences are an excellent way for mathematics teacher educators across the state to come together to discuss issues of particular importance to our work. You are encouraged to propose sessions that are interactive and include substantial time for discussion.

Ed Silver and Carl Lager To Keynote Bakersfield Conference

We are delighted to announce that Ed Silver and Carl Lager will be the keynote speakers for the conference in Bakersfield, CA on September 10-11, 2010. The conference, supported by CAMTE and other professional organizations, will be based on the QUASAR research that found that students benefit more from engaging in high-cognitive-level tasks (Problem Solving) than they do from low-level tasks such as memorization. This conference intends to provide participating teachers with the ability to classify tasks and with lessons and strategies for engaging ALL students in high-level tasks. If you or someone you know has expertise related to the focus of this conference, please encourage that person to submit a speaker proposal. Click here to learn more, register for the conference, or download a proposal to speak.

CAMTE Strands at 2009 CMC-S and CMC-N Conferences

Once again, CAMTE has a teacher education strand at both the California Mathematics Council (CMC)-South and CMC-North conferences! Visit the Conferences page to view the session titles and speakers for each of these strands. Enjoy lunch during the CAMTE Business Meeting at the CMC-N conference at Asilomar, as well as a reception at the CAMTE membership meeting during the CMC-S conference in Palm Springs (food compliments of Texas Instruments).

CAMTE Strands at Conferences

CAMTE's annual business meeting is held during the California Mathematics Council (CMC)-South conference (Palm Springs) in even-numbered years and during the CMC-North conference (Asilomar) in odd-numbered years. A "CAMTE Strand" of sessions was included at CMC-South during 2004 and at CMC-North during 2005. Beginning in 2006, a CAMTE Strand has been part of both of these conferences.

The titles, speaker name, times, and locations for the CAMTE Strand sessions at CMC-North and CMC-South conferences are contained in PDF files available below. (Files from CAMTE sessions at AMTE and PMET conferences are also included in the listing below.)
