Letter to the Curriculum Development and Supplemental Materials Commission
(24 January 2006)
In January 2006, CAMTE teamed with the California Mathematics Council to urge the Curriculum Commission to change its policy and permit a qualified person with a doctorate in mathematics education to be eligible for membership on the Content Review Panel (CRP) for the 2006 K-8 mathematics instructional materials adoption. That year, the Curriculum Commission did allow someone with a doctorate in mathematics education to serve on this panel. Read the letter here.
In March 2006, CAMTE cosponsored the California State University (CSU) Mathematics and Science Teacher Recruitment and Preparation Summit, which was held at the Pacific Palms Conference Resort in Industry Hills, CA. The Summit was an important gathering of key administrators as well as mathematics and science faculty from every CSU campus to address the CSU system's strong commitment to addressing the growing shortage of mathematics and science teachers.
